CSS Box-Shadow & Glassmorphism Studio
Design natural multi-layered elevation shadows and frosted glass backdrop-filter interfaces. Real-time visual canvas with instant CSS export.
/* Multi-Layer Box Shadow */ box-shadow: 0 1px 3px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.09), 0px 10px 25px -5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 3px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.09), 0px 10px 25px -5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15); border-radius: 12px;
The Physics of Multi-Layer Elevation & Browser Render Performance
In physical reality, light never casts a single harsh shadow. Natural illumination consists of an ambient occlusion shadow (soft, non-directional blur that anchors the object to its surface) combined with a directional key light shadow.
Multi-Layer Stacking
Single-layer shadows look synthetic. Composing two shadows—a tight high-opacity contact shadow (0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.1)) and a diffused low-opacity blur (0 10px 25px -5px rgba(0,0,0,0.15))—simulates realistic ambient daylight.
GPU Compositing & Repaint Costs
Large blur radii (over 40px) require Gaussian convolution filters on the CPU/GPU rasterizer during every scroll frame. For 60 FPS mobile performance, prefer negative spread radii (spread: -5px) to keep blur footprints compact.
Backdrop-Filter Glass Acceleration
backdrop-filter: blur() samples pixels behind the element in real time. Always pair with transform: translateZ(0) or will-change: backdrop-filter on scroll containers to prevent mobile GPU throttling.
